Usage Note 57771: Using the "Use the most current data when referenced by a link" option in an interactive SAS® Customer Intelligence Studio session
In SAS Customer Intelligence Studio, you can enable the option Use the most current data when referenced by a link for a campaign that contains a Link node, as shown below:
However, when this option is enabled, it does not update the counts in the Link (target campaign) node campaign even when you execute the campaign multiple times in the same SAS Customer Intelligence Studio session and the underlying data has changed.
The reason why the counts are not updated is because the campaign that holds the linkable Cell (source campaign) node is loaded in the background to provide the count, and that Cell node runs only when it is loaded for the first time. Subsequently, within the same user session, the campaign that contains the Link node is not reloaded.
This behavior was implemented for efficiency in a situation where a campaign-group execution occurs and references multiple linked Cell nodes in the same session. In such situations, it is not efficient to load and rerun the linked campaign numerous times simply to obtain the same answer. Instead, the software references the single instance of the linked campaign in the session, and it runs the count only once per session.
This behavior is documented in the section "Specify Diagram Properties" ("Chapter 4: Designing Campaigns") in the SAS® Marketing Automation 6.5: User's Guide.
You can change this behavior in a couple of ways:
- If you set up two scheduled executions and the data changes between the scheduled executions, you should see the most current counts. Each execution creates a separate session. As such, the linked campaign loads independently and reruns the count.
- You can also simply log off and log on again between executions. Doing so clears the linked campaign and causes it to reload and rerun the count in the second session.
