Problem Note 57382: Users are prompted for credentials when they attempt to connect to application servers by using SAS® Enterprise Guide®
SAS Enterprise Guide users might report that they can successfully connect to a SAS® Metadata Server but when attempting to run code or connect to an application server such as SASApp, they are prompted for credentials, as shown below:

The user then enters valid credentials, after which a pop-up error message occurs stating that SAS Enterprise Guide has encountered an error. When that generic error message appears, the user can get a more detailed version of the message by clicking Show Details. Then the user might see a message like the one below:
Connection retry attempted with previously failed login
-------------------------- Technical Information Follows --------------------------
Exception Details:
----------------------------------------
Exception type: SAS.EG.SDS.SDSException
Message: Connection retry attempted with previously failed login
Source: SAS.EG.SDS.Model
Target Site: SASWorkspace
Explanation
For a more detailed explanation of this error message, run the SAS® Integration Technologies Configuration client by following the steps below. The client tests the connection to the application server, using the User Account and Machine in question.
- Select Start ► All Programs ► SAS ► Utilities ► SAS Integration Technologies Configuration.
- Select the Test SAS Servers radio button and click Next.
- Select the Enter a SAS server definition manually radio button and then click Next.
- Under Currently Testing, select SAS Workspace Server, and under Connection Protocol, select IOM BRIDGE.
- Under Encryption Level, select Credentials, and under Encryption Algorithm, select SASProprietary.
- Enter the Service Name or Port Number (the default port number is 8591), and enter the user name and password for the user who is experiencing the problem.
- Click Test and review the log that is created.
In the log that is generated, you might see the following at the top:
Access denied. Error authenticating user "UserID" in function LogonUser. Error 1385 (Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.). User "UserID" probably does not have the right to log on as a batch job.
Solution
To correct this issue for the user who is experiencing the problem, you need to give him/her Log on as a batch job privileges on your application server. See the Log on as a Batch Job section under Windows Privileges in the SAS® 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Security Administration Guide, Second Edition.
