SQL syntax errors might occur when using SAS/ACCESS Interface to ODBC to write to a MySQL database from a SAS^® data set. The error might be similar to the following:

Note: The variable type VARCHAR from the error above might vary depending on which SAS data set and variables that you used. The error message might contain any variable type.

The problem occurs when the variable name in the SAS data set is a reserved word in the MySQL database. For a listing of most of the reserved words, see the "9.3 Keywords and Reserved Words" section of the MySQL Reference Manual.

Note: This is not a complete list.

To work around the problem, rename the SAS column to a non-reserved word.
