In SAS Enterprise Guide, a red X might appear in the program editor even though there are no errors in the SAS log.
Typically, this problem occurs when the program uses an undefined format or informat.
To fix the problem, add this line of code at the top of the program window:
When the program runs, this code will write an appropriate error to the log.
