Problem Note 56029: SAS® clients might receive a connection time-out message when you try to connect to a SAS® 9.4 Metadata Server cluster

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

In the second maintenance release for SAS 9.4 (TS1M2), you might encounter a problem when you run a SAS Metadata Server cluster on three or more nodes in the AIX operating environment. SAS clients might not be able to connect to the cluster if one of the nodes is stopped. For example, the following sequence of events might trigger the problem:

  1. A SAS Metadata Server cluster runs normally for any period of time.
  2. The physical machine, the logical partition, or the virtual machine of one node is shut down. The node can be forcibly shut down, or you can gracefully stop the node by submitting operating-system commands.
  3. A SAS client such as SAS® Enterprise Guide®, SAS® Management Console, SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office, or SAS® Web Report Studio attempts to connect to the cluster and receives a connection time-out message. As a result, the connection is not successful.

Note: Be aware that this issue does not occur if only the metadata server on one of the nodes is shut down. The connection time-out from the client occurs only if the actual host that runs the metadata server cluster node is shut down. The problem occurs when the network interface of the host is unavailable on the network.
