Dependent on your machine's processor, you might receive either the error VT-x is not available or the error AMD-v is not available when you start SAS Data Loader for Hadoop - TRIAL. This error indicates that changes need to be made in your system's BIOS (or firmware) before you can use SAS Data Loader. In general, this error message indicates one of two things: that your system does not support virtualization or that the option to use virtualization needs to be enabled. To remedy this situation, there are three tasks that you must do:

• Verify that your computer supports virtualization.
• Change the virtualization option.
• Restart your machine and invoke your BIOS setup screen.

Follow these steps to accomplish the tasks listed above:

1. Verify that your computer supports virtualization. Typically, newer computers support virtualization. However, there are exceptions. To begin, make sure that you are running an x64 machine and also determine whether your x-64 machine has an Intel processor or an AMD processor. To determine which processor you have:
   
   1. For a machine in a Microsoft Windows operating environment, simultaneously press the Windows key and the R key on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
   2. In the Open field of the dialog box, enter msinfo32 and click OK.
   3. In the System Information window, ensure that System Summary is selected in the left panel.
   4. In the right panel, find System Type and ensure that it shows that you have an x64-based machine. Next, find Processor. The manufacturer of the processor is listed in that field.
   
   

   

   
   
2. Once you locate the manufacturer name, download and use the tool that corresponds to your processor, as shown below. These tools provide a brief description of your computer's capabilities and whether the virtualization technology is supported on your machine.

This page explains how to enable Intel VT and AMD-V virtualization hardware extensions in BIOS. The page provides the general process for entering the BIOS and changing the virtualization setting. Note: During this process, it is necessary to restart your computer.
