Problem Note 55373: Creating an index can cause your SAS® session to stop responding
Under certain conditions, your SAS® session might stop responding when you create an index for a Base engine data set. This can occur when the data set contains a very large number of observations and the index has a very wide total length.
The problem occurs when the length of the index multiplied by the number of observations exceeds two gigabytes.
There is currently no circumvention for this issue.
