The SAS Enterprise BI Server web applications are supported on many versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. In order to support newer versions of Internet Explorer, the web applications instruct Internet Explorer to display the content in compatibility mode.
Microsoft provides compatibility mode so that new Internet Explorer versions are backward compatible with existing web applications. Compatibility mode is necessary because each new Internet Explorer version changes and adds features that could cause web applications to stop working. For more information, see the Microsoft article Understanding the need for document compatibility modes. The SAS web applications use IE7 standards mode.
For end users, the use of compatibility mode is seamless, and they see no difference in experience. However, for content developers, there are some limitations. Any HTML content that you embed in a SAS web application must conform to IE7 standards mode. This must be done because Internet Explorer forces all parts of the page to use the same standards mode, even URLs that are embedded in an iFrame. For example, if your goal is to embed an HTML page in the SAS® Information Delivery Portal using a URL portlet, then you cannot include content that relies on Internet Explorer features that are not available in IE7 standards mode.
