When you run the SAS® Deployment Wizard to install SAS software or when you run the SAS® Deployment Manager to uninstall SAS software, the filesystem is examined. If any files the wizard needs to delete are found to be locked, they are reported as unwritable files.
In some cases, the Report Fonts for Clients might still be in system memory and are reported as unwritable files.
When this happens, you see the following message displayed on the Checking System page of the SAS Deployment Wizard or SAS Deployment Manager.
Unwritable files: 2 C:\Program Files\SASHome\ReportFontsforClients\9.4\sasmono.ttf C:\Program Files\SASHome\ReportFontsforClients\9.4\sasmonob.ttf
This problem sometimes occurs when font files are installed to a non-default location and MS14-045 Security Update for Kernel-Mode Drivers is installed. Files that are loaded into any active session are reported as being in use or locked when an attempt is made to delete, change, or replace the file. Microsoft article 2982791 discusses the known issues for the MS14-045 Security Update for Kernel-Mode Drivers when fonts are installed in a non-default location.
To work around the problem without having to cancel the SAS Deployment Wizard or SAS Deployment Manager, follow these steps.
Alternatives to the workaround described above for releasing these files from memory include the following:
After releasing the files from memory, continue with the process for uninstalling or installing the SAS software. The process should now complete successfully.
To fix the Report Fonts for Clients issue, add the following command line options to your response file for quietly uninstalling your software.
rem Added step due to MS security update keeping some fonts in system memory move "C:\Program Files\SASHome\ReportFontsforClients\9.4\sasmon*.ttf" c:\windows\temp cls
The point is to move sasmon*.ttf from the SAS installation location to another location. The files can later be deleted from that temporary location after a subsequent reboot. By moving the two files, you can continue to uninstall your software in quite mode.
