Problem Note 54712: SAS® Universal Viewer 1.4 stops responding when you open a SAS® data set
When you are using 64-bit SAS Universal Viewer 1.4 in Windows 7, 8, or 10 operating environments or Windows Server 2008 or 2012 operating systems to view SAS data sets, the SAS Universal Viewer might stop responding. This system crash is related to an issue with reading the SAS formats that are applied when you are viewing the data sets. When this issue occurs, SAS returns an error message similar to the following:
SAS.UniViewer has stopped working
Fixing the Issue
The Hot Fix tab in this note contains two different versions of a hot fix for this problem. It is essential that you determine which 64-bit release of SAS Universal Viewer 1.4 you have installed, so that you know which version of the hot fix to select. Follow these steps.
- First, determine what version you have installed:
- Navigate to C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASUniversalViewer\1.4\installs.
- You should see a folder named after the release that you have installed.
Here is an example of this folder name:
SASUNIVIEWER_WX6_1.4x
- Now, click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fixes. On the tab, click the link that corresponds to your version of SAS Universal Viewer.
