Usage Note 54163: Problems might occur when you attempt to display a Java based graph on a Microsoft Windows machine where the Java JRE is not installed
Various problems might occur when you attempt to display a Java based graph on a Windows machine on which the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is not installed. In certain situations, you might be prompted to install the Java JRE from a third-party Java download page. In other situations, you might see the following message displayed in your web browser instead of the graph displaying correctly:
Sorry, there was a problem with the control or plug-in in your browser.
These problems typically occur when you attempt to display Java based graph output that is created with traditional SAS/GRAPH® procedures, such as GPLOT, GCHART, and GTILE, with the JAVA device driver. The problems can also occur with Java based macros such as DS2CONST and DS2TREE.
Note that SAS® only supports the 32-bit version of the Java JRE. If you are running 64-bit Windows, you need to install the 32-bit version of the Java JRE. The earliest supported version of the Java JRE is Java JRE 1.6 Update 24.
If you upgrade your version of the Java JRE to Java JRE 1.7 Update 51 or later, you might run into a Java security issue documented in Problem Note 54159: A Java security exception error might occur when you attempt to display a Java based graph with Java JRE 1.7 Update 51 or later.
To circumvent these problems, install the 32-bit version of the Java JRE (either Java JRE 1.6 or Java JRE 1.7).
