Usage Note 54785: When SAS® Web Report Studio uses a standard workspace server, scheduling and distribution might require additional configuration
Overview
By default, SAS Web Report Studio uses a pooled workspace server, which runs under shared credentials. If SAS Web Report Studio does not have access to a pooled workspace server, then the standard workspace server is used. For example, you might have blocked access to the pooled workspace server, or there might not be a pooled workspace server defined in the server context that SAS Web Report Studio is using.
When a standard workspace server is used, users might not be able to schedule or distribute reports. Typically, the log contains an error that is similar to this one:
No host credentials exist to start this server.
Either the client needs to send in host credentials,
or credentials need to be specified for the server
Resolutions
To resolve this issue, take one of the following actions:
- Enable access to a pooled workspace server in the server context that SAS Web Report Studio is using.
- Store a password in metadata for each user.
Note: Internal accounts are not supported for scheduling regardless of password storage. If you are using an internal account, the option to schedule is not available. This is true even if the internal account is in a role that has the schedule capability enabled.
- Enable token authentication for the workspace server.
Note: For information about how to set up token authentication, see the SAS Intelligence Platform: Security Administration Guide. You can find a link to the guide on the SAS® Intelligence Platform Product Documentation page. Click the tab for your release of SAS®, and then look under "Administration Documentation."
Reports that include stored processes
If your report includes stored processes, here are some additional considerations:
- If the report includes a stored process that executes on a workspace server, then you encounter similar problems even if a pooled workspace server is available to use. For more information, see SAS Note 41751.
- If your report contains only a stored process, and that stored process executes on a SAS® Stored Process server, then the stored process is executed using the shared credentials for that server. Access to a workspace server is not required.
