Usage Note 53257: Daily Revenue Cap
Daily Revenue Cap limits a flight's impressions when a specified revenue cap is reached per day. Revenue is calculated using the "Cost per" fields for Impressions, Clicks, and Actions along with the current day's amount of impressions, clicks, and/or actions. Daily Revenue Cap is set in the Goals & Revenue section on the Edit Flight screen:
The "Cost per" field sets the CPM rate for impressions, or Cost Per Thousand. Conversely, the Cost Per fields for Clicks and Actions are per single click/action. In the example above, this means $1.00 revenue per 1000 impressions. When Daily Revenue Cap is set, the flight will serve impressions regularly according to the flight's priority and serving rate until the revenue cap is reached for that day. If the cap is reached, the flight will not be eligible to serve again until the following day. The revenue for each day does not carry over to the next, so beginning at midnight each flight's revenue is considered to be zero for the newly started 24 hour period.
In the example above, this flight would serve up to 10,000 impressions a day:
[10$/day] * [1000 impressions/1$] = 10,000 impressions/day
Thus, the formula to calculate the Daily Revenue Cap is:
[X impressions/day] * [Y$/1000 impressions] = Daily Revenue Cap
Daily Revenue Cap will override engine priority in the respect that even if flight is behind schedule, the cap will not be violated. This means that if the cap is set too strictly it's possible that the flight will not meet its goal. However, Daily Revenue Cap will not force a flight to over serve, so a flight will never become ahead of schedule because of the cap.
Note that the revenues shown in reports will reflect the values entered. These do not have to real-world values for the flight to be capped daily but the user must remember that the report revenues are not accurate if not using real-world values.
Note: the system in many cases will not be able to hit the daily revenue cap exactly. Slight over or under serving should be expected.
