If the PDATA = option is specified in the PARMS statement in PROC NLIN, and parameters are assigned using an ARRAY statement, then any of the following error messages might be generated:

   ERROR: The variable xxx was referenced but not given a value.
   
   ERROR:  An exception has been encountered.
           Please contact technical support and provide them with the
           following traceback information:

   The SAS task name is [NLIN]
   ERROR:  Read Access Violation NLIN
   Exception occurred at (242CDE69)
   Task Traceback

   ERROR: A bug in SAS has been encountered. Please call your SAS representative
   and report the following message:
   cmpder:symbol_setup: wrong kind for wrt var -1
   
   ERROR: cmpfdep() 'mindex' passed not set.

To circumvent the problem, avoid using an ARRAY statement to assign parameters, or use parameter-specification instead of the PDATA= option to assign starting values.
