Problem Note 53226: An email notification or warning is sent when SAS® Visual Analytics Services is nearing expiration or has expired in Metadata

If you are your organization's designated on-site SAS administrator for SAS Visual Analytics Services in a Windows operating environment, you might receive a warning that your product is about to expire or has expired.

Product expiration notifications are sent via email with a subject line similar to one of the following, depending on the version of your software:

  • SAS Product Expiration Notification
  • SAS Product Expiration Warning

Note: The information in this SAS Note pertains to SAS Visual Analytics Services, which should not be confused with the SAS Visual Analytics Server solution.

For SAS Visual Analytics Services 6.4:  Expiration Notification

The content for an expired license is as follows:

Your license for Visual Analytics Services 6.4 on your-machine-name has expired. Please contact your on-site SAS support personnel to obtain your updated setinit information.

For SAS Visual Analytics Services 7.x:  Expiration Warning

The email states the following, where 7.x is 7.1, 7.2, or 7.3:

Visual Analytics Services 7.x on your-machine-name will expire on your-expire-date, which is number days from now. Please contact your on-site SAS support personnel to obtain your updated setinit information. Visual Analytics Services 7.x will no longer function on or after this date.

Additional Renewal Steps Are Required for SAS® 9.4: Updating the SID File in Metadata

Starting with SAS 9.4, SAS® Enterprise BI Server, SAS Visual Analytics, and other SAS solutions include the SAS Visual Analytics Services product. This product requires additional renewal steps in addition to running the Renew SAS Software utility. Start the SAS® Deployment Manager and select Update SID file in Metadata, as noted below. Repeat for all SID files in Metadata.

For SAS 9.4 in a Windows operating environment, navigate to the SAS Metadata Server machine and then follow the steps in the Software License Renewal instructions, SAS® 9.4 for Microsoft Windows and Windows for x64 Planned Deployment.

Be sure to perform these additional steps along with the Renew SAS Software Utility:

D. Update the SID File in Metadata for Applicable SAS Solutions.

E. Restart any SAS Servers and SAS Spawners.

During Step D (Update the SID File in Metadata...), select the Windows Server renewal SID file with the SAS Enterprise BI Server, SAS Visual Analytics, or other SAS solution that contains the SAS Visual Analytics Services product. In the SID file, it is listed as shown here:

*PRODNUM827 = BISRVMID SAS Visual Analytics Services;

Remember, we are looking for SAS Visual Analytics Services, not the SAS Visual Analytics Server.

How to Check the SID File(s) in Metadata

You might want to verify that the SID file in metadata have been updated. To do so, see SAS Note 57183: "The SID files in metadata can be viewed in SAS® Management Console starting with SAS® 9.4 (TS1M2)."

Email Notification Email Address and Verification

You might want to use the following instructions if:

  • you are the on-site SAS administrator for your organization and you did not receive an email warning or notification about your software expiring, or
  • you are no longer the on-site SAS administrator for your organization and want to stop receiving the notifications.

SAS-Configuration-folder\Lev1\SASMeta\MetadataServer\omaconfig.xml
