Problem Note 52021: Interactive Grouping and Interactive Binning nodes give a "Variable is not on file ..." error, or the Gini coefficient value is not correct
In SAS® Enterprise Miner™, some nodes enable you to specify that a variable's Role is Rejected for a given node. In subsequent nodes that enable you to specify a Use value, you can specify Yes if you want to use a variable that was previously rejected. However, the Interactive Grouping node and the Interactive Binning node do not perform correctly for interval variables in this scenario.
When you run the Interactive Grouping node in this scenario, the node fails. The following error is displayed in the node log:
ERROR: Variable variable-name is not on file WORK.TEMPTRAIN.
ERROR: Invalid DROP, KEEP, or RENAME option on file WORK.TEMPTRAIN.
When you run the Interactive Binning node in this scenario, the node completes. However, the Gini coefficient is not calculated for the rejected variable, and values are all missing or 0 on the Groupings tab for that variable. There are no error or warning messages.
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
To work around the problem without the hot fix, add a Metadata node before the Interactive Grouping or Interactive Binning nodes. Change New Role to Input for the rejected interval variable that you want to use.
