Problem Note 52577: The Deployment Backup and Recovery Tool reports backup status of failed for Microsoft Windows 8 and Microsoft Server 2012 operating environments
The Deployment Backup and Recovery Tool reports a backup status of failed when executed in a Microsoft Windows 8 or Microsoft Server 2012 operating environment.
The problem occurs when the SAS Deployment Agent is configured to run as the Local System account. A fix is planned for a future software release.
Workaround
To work around the problem, configure the SAS Deployment Agent to run as an account other than the local system account.
The account must meet the following criteria.
- The account must be an external account that is known to each of the host machines on which the Deployment Backup and Recovery tool is configured.
- The login must be known to the host machine that contains the central vault.
- The account must have Read and Write access to the central vault directory.
- From either Control Panel\Administrative Tools or System\Security, double-click Services.
- In the Services window, locate the SAS Deployment Agent service in the list and stop the service.
- Right-click the SAS Deployment Agent service and select Properties.
- Click the Log On tab and choose the This account radio button. Specify an alternate account that meets the criteria described in this SAS Note.
- Click Apply and OK.
- Start the SAS Deployment Agent Service.
- For multiple tier deployments, repeat the steps for each tier.
- From the SAS® Management Console, select User Manager Plug-in, display the properties for the SAS Administrator. Click the Accounts tab. Remove the backup user from the logins defined for the SAS Administrator and click OK. Close the SAS Management Console.
- Test the solution by executing the sas-backup to run an ad hoc backup.
If instructions are needed, see "Using the Deployment Backup and Recovery Tool" in the SAS® 9.4 Intelligence Platform: System Administration Guide.
