Installation Note 52093: The length of a file system pathname is limited in SAS® Marketing Optimization
When you create a scenario or publish a solution or an
OLAP cube, SAS Marketing Optimization 6.1 checks and enforces the maximum length of a pathname for the
file system directories that are created. These limits are determined by the operating system but are checked by the
software.
In a Windows operating environment, these pathnames might be limited to 255 characters, including drive
names and path delimiters. Windows can use Unicode to extend this limit to 32k, but it is
preferable to keep the location of the files to a reasonably short path.
In a UNIX operating environment, this number is higher but is enforced to 1020 characters. The pathnames that are generated might consist of
several variables. For example, a <> has a path specification of the following form:
<scenario-root>\user-name\business-context-name\input-data-name_id\
scenario-name_id\
In this specification, <scenario-root> might be as follows:
<lev-config>\Applications\SASCustomerIntelligence\SASMarketingOptimization scenarios
The remaining path specification is then specific to the particular scenario regarding the user
that created it, the business context under which it was running, the name of the input data and ID, and the scenario name and ID. All of these can be variable in length, so caution should be
taken to ensure that each is given minimal values to reduce the number of characters that are used.
Specifying a different parent directory as the location for the data directories during the
configuration process and choosing a location that has a short path specification is one way
to reduce the total number of characters.
