Usage Note 52060: SAS® Visual Analytics might import date values in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet as character values
In Microsoft Excel, date values might be stored as text even though the cell format Category is Date. For example, in the following display, the Hire_Date values are stored as text and the End_Date values are stored as dates. When dates are stored as text, the values are left-aligned in the cells. When dates are stored as dates, the values are right-aligned in the cells.
The following display shows how SAS® Visual Data Builder imports these two columns. The Hire_Date values are character because they are stored as text. The End_Date values are dates because they are stored as dates.
For assistance in converting the text values to date values, see the topic "Convert dates stored as text to dates" in Microsoft Excel Help. You must convert the text to dates before you import the file into SAS Visual Analytics.
