Problem Note 50744: Performance of the SAS® Metadata Server might decrease significantly when you use the search feature in SAS® Web Report Studio

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

If your SAS® Enterprise Business Intelligence deployment has hundreds of metadata folders, then performing a search in SAS Web Report Studio might significantly decrease the performance of the SAS Metadata Server.

Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.

After you apply the hot fix, the search process is more focused on relevant object types. In addition, a new, customizable SAS Web Report Studio property enables the software to search folders in smaller groups when the total number of folders exceeds a specified number. By default, if the number of folders to search exceeds 500, then the folders are processed in groups of 200.

To modify these default processing values, perform these steps.

  1. In SAS® Management Console, expand Application Management ► Configuration Manager (► SAS Application Infrastructure).
  2. Right-click Web Report Studio 4.x, and select Properties.
  3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
  4. Click Add to open the Define New Property dialog box.
    1. For the Property Name, enter wrs.searchTools.numFoldersToRequireChunking
    2. For the Property Value, enter a number. When the total number of folders that are being searched exceeds this number, SAS Web Report Studio breaks the search down into smaller groups of folders. The size of the folder groups is determined by the wrs.searchTools.folderChunkSize property.
    3. Click OK.
  5. Click Add again to open the Define New Property dialog box.
    1. For the Property Name, enter wrs.searchTools.folderChunkSize
    2. For the Property Value, enter the size of the folder group.
  6. Click OK twice to exit both dialog boxes and save the changes.
  7. To enforce the new settings, restart your web application server.

Note: A hot fix related to this issue is also available for the SAS Metadata Server. For best performance, apply the hot fix from this SAS note and from SAS Note 50673: Searching in SAS® Web Report Studio from the SAS Folders root folder might cause the SAS® Metadata Server to become unresponsive.
