Installation Note 50010: Performing a planned installation of SAS® Enterprise Guide®
SAS Enterprise Guide can be installed via a planned installation or an unplanned (also known as non-planning) installation. To install SAS Enterprise Guide via a non-planning installation, see SAS KB0036484, "Performing a non-planning installation of SAS® Enterprise Guide®.
The planned installation process installs SAS Enterprise Guide and defines a default connection profile for a SAS® Metadata Server on the PC. When a user first starts SAS Enterprise Guide, the connection profile contains the predetermined connection information for the metadata server that you define in the steps below.
The following instructions guide you through a SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1 installation from a SAS® 9.3 depot. These same steps can be followed to install SAS Enterprise Guide releases 4.2, 4.3, and 6.1, as they are very similar.
Note: To install and configure SAS Enterprise Guide simultaneously, the planned order is required.
To perform a planned installation of SAS Enterprise Guide, follow these steps.
- Start the SAS® Deployment Wizard using an Administrator account and with all antivirus and anti-malware software disabled.
- On the Select Deployment Task page, select the Install SAS software option, as shown below, and click Next.
- On the Select Deployment Type page, select the Perform a Planned Deployment option and click Next.

- On the Specify Deployment Plan page, select the Select a standard deployment plan option. In the drop-down box, select Enterprise Guide, two machines and click Next.

- On the Select Deployment Step and Products to Install page, in the Deployment Steps drop-down list, select Step 2: Clients and click Next.

- On the Select SAS Enterprise Guide Mode page, select the compatibility mode that SAS Enterprise Guide is to be installed in. Click Next
Note: This page is not presented on 32-bit operating systems.
- On the Specify SAS Installation Data File page, specify the SAS installation data file (SID file) for the installation and click Next.
- Note: The SID file must be valid.

- On the Select Language Support page, select the languages that you would like installed for the products listed and click Next.

- On the Checking System page, verify that the system checks are successful. Click Next.
Note: If any existing SAS services or processes are running on the PC, they must be closed during the installation.

- On the Select Configuration Prompting Level page, select Typical and click Next.

- On the Specify Configuration Information page, enter the path for the configuration directory for the installation in the Configuration Directory box and click Next.

- On the Local Machine Name page, specify the machine name and click Next.

- This installation/configuration is not performing a migration. No action is needed in this window. Click Next.

- If the computer that server users will connect to is configured to use Integrated Windows authentication, select the box for Use Integrated Windows authentication (single-sign-on) on the Integrated Windows Authentication page and click Next.
Note: This selection checks the Use Integrated Windows Authentication option in the connection profile that is created.

- On the SAS Metadata Server page, enter the host name and port number for the SAS Metadata Server that SAS Enterprise Guide users will connect to. Click Next.

- On the Deployment Summary page, start the installation by clicking the Start button.

- Take note of the additional resources that are available and click Finish to complete the installation and configuration.

When the installation is complete, SAS Enterprise Guide is installed and a ConfigurationV42.xml file resides in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\SAS\MetadataServerProfiles\. When a user invokes SAS Enterprise Guide, this file is read and a new ConfigurationV51.xml file is created in the user's %APPDATA%\SAS\MetadataServerProfiles and is used by SAS Enterprise Guide thereafter.
