When you are installing the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, excluding the selection for Outlook is an option. However, the resulting installation might present the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office menu selections in Outlook 2007 anyway.

Other Noted Behaviors: When you provide credentials, a pause as long as 3 minutes might occur. Also, if you select Actions from the File menu in Outlook 2007, two things might occur: 1) The session might become unstable, or 2) the Actions menu might be unresponsive.

Correcting the Issue

Warning: SAS is not responsible when you edit the Windows registry. Always back up your registry before you make any registry changes. Changes in the Windows registry can render your system unusable and require that you reinstall the operating system. For assistance, see Windows Help, Microsoft documentation, or the Microsoft Windows website.

To correct this problem, import the following registry file. Before doing so, review the warning above. The registry import corrects the offending registry entries that cause the behavior. Importing the registry file should be done for any user that has experienced the behavior.

After the registry file has been imported, any user that has already experienced the behavior must also run the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office utility known as the Switcher utility and deselect Outlook. For any user that has not yet experienced the behavior, there is no need to perform the Switcher utility step.

The default location for the SwitcherUtility.exe file varies depending on the release. For example, this is the default location for the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 5.1 SwitcherUtility.exe using 32-bit Office 2007 on a 32-bit machine:

After you run SwitcherUtility.exe and deselect Outlook, click OK to exit the Switcher utility. At this point, you should be able to open Outlook without the incorrect behavior occurring.
