Problem Note 50339: The View Registry tool might not create Deployment Registry reports on Microsoft Windows

When executed, the ViewRegistry (sas.tools.viewregistry.jar) utility creates a report that shows you the products, product versions, and SAS hot fixes that are installed to a SASHOME location. When you run the ViewRegistry utility from the SASHOME/deploymntreg folder, DeploymentRegistry.html and DeploymentRegistry.txt reports are created and are saved in the \deploymntreg folder. You must run the ViewRegistry utility as Administrator using a version of Java that is compatible with your SAS installation.

Problem
When you run the ViewRegistry utility by double-clicking the sas.tools.viewregistry.jar, the DeploymentRegistry.html and DeploymentRegistry.txt reports might not be saved in the \deploymntreg folder on Microsoft Windows.
Cause
The problem described here occurs when you are executing the sas.tools.viewregistry.jar file without Administrator privileges.
Solution
To resolve the problem, run the sas.tools.viewregistry.jar from a command prompt that you open as Administrator.
To open a command prompt as Administrator, right-click the Command Prompt shortcut or the cmd.exe file and choose Run as administrator. The command prompt executable, cmd.exe, is located at C:\Windows\system32.
In SAS 9.2 and SAS 9.3, Do the Following
When the command prompt opens, navigate to your sashome\deploymntreg folder and submit the following command:
Note: Be sure you enter this command manually. Do not use copy and paste.
If you get the error "'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file," you need to provide the full path to the Java executable that is installed on your system for use with your SAS installation and then submit the command again. Here is an example:
In SAS 9.4, Do the Following
When the command prompt opens, navigate to your sashome\deploymntreg folder and submit the following command:
Note: Modify the path in the example above if your SAS installation directory is in a different location. Be sure you enter this command manually. Do not use copy and paste.
Default Locations for sashome\deploymntreg
Below are the default sashome\deploymntreg locations:
- For SAS® 9.2: C:\Program Files\SAS\deploymntreg
- For SAS® 9.3 and SAS® 9.4: C:\Program Files\SASHome\deploymntreg
After using the instructions described above to run the ViewRegistry utility, verify that the DeploymentRegistry.html and DeploymentRegistry.txt reports are now in your \deploymntreg folder.
