Installation Note 50177: SGI (64-bit, English) fails to install correctly because of incorrect registration of DLL files by third-party products
When you are installing the SGI component of SAS/IML
® Studio (formerly known as SAS
® Stat Studio), some DLL or OCX files might become corrupted. The following error might result:
Controller - An error occurred during processing:
Controller - There is a problem that seems to be an issue
with the installer: An non-zero exit value of 3 was returned while registering
the file C:\Program Files\SAS\SharedFiles\SGI\9.3\SGRotate.ocx
If you look at the DeploymentSummary.html file, you might see the following:
Completed with errors - SGI (64-bit, English)
To correct this issue, delete the corrupted DLL or OCX file and then re-create it.
Files in the C:\Windows\System32 directory can become corrupted by third-party software. These changes might result in the DLL files changing from a 64-bit format to a 32-bit format. When SAS attempts to load the DLL or OCX file, it cannot do so because the bit architecture does not match. The 32-bit executable files should be placed in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory, not the C:\Windows\System32 directory. This mismatch leads to the error and prevents the installation from executing properly.
To delete the corrupted file, do the following:
Note: You must have full administrative privileges to perform theses steps.
- Create a new directory called C:\FixVC2010.
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your SAS Software Depot\products folder (for example: C:\SAS Software Depot\products).
- Navigate to the vcredist10..\wx6\native folder (for example: \vcredist10__99110__prt__xx__sp0__1\wx6\native\.
- Copy the vcredist_x64.exe file to the C:\FixVC2010 directory.
- Open a Windows command prompt window: Select Start ► Run, type CMD, and click OK.
- Run the following commands, pressing the Enter key after each line:
cd\
cd C:\Windows\System32
erase msvcr100.dll
cd C:\FixVC2010
vcredist_x64.exe /repair
To re-create a clean file, do the following:
- Start a Windows command prompt window: Select Start ► Run, type CMD, and click OK.
- Run the following commands, pressing the Enter key after each line:
cd "C:\SAS_Depot_93_2013_05"

- Navigate to your SAS installation materials and select the setup.exe.
