Problem Note 49607: The maximum number of database connections is exceeded when you access databases that are registered in metadata

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It
The following error message might occur when the maximum number of database connections is exceeded:
[Error] CLI error trying to establish connection:
The permitted number of client connections (510) has been exceeded
This issue occurs when you access databases that are registered in the metadata server. These orphan connections can accumulate and cause database servers to run out of available connections.

This seems to be a connection leak that occurs when you use the SQL procedure with the Metadata Library Engine.

To work around the issue, do one of the following:

  • Use the native database engine instead of the Metadata Library Engine.
  • For the CONNECTION= option values, use SHARED, SHAREDREAD, GLOBAL, or GLOBALREAD instead of UNIQUE. However, you might experience problems as documented in SAS Note 49604: "Too many connections are made to the Netezza database and not being dropped or reused when no longer needed."
  • Clean up the orphaned processes.
