Usage Note 49468: "ACCESS (or EXCEL) engine cannot be found" errors occur when you try to import and export to Excel and Access files with SAS® 9.2 and 64-bit Office
When exporting data to Excel and Access files with a 64-bit version of SAS 9.2 and 64-bit Office, you might receive the following message:
ERROR: The ACCESS (or EXCEL) engine cannot be found.
ERROR: Error in the LIBNAME statement
The problem occurs because, in SAS 9.2, the EXCEL and ACCESS engines are 32-bit. To resolve the problem, do one of the following:
- Use SAS® 9.3 instead of 9.2. (The 64-bit engines are available in SAS 9.3.)
- Use SAS/ACCESS® Interface to ODBC to read the files with a LIBNAME statement. Here is an example. The DBQ parameter points to the location of the files.
For Microsoft Excel, use this LIBNAME statement:
libname myxls odbc required=
"Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb)};
DBQ=c:\sastest\mynew.xlsb;READONLY=FALSE";
For Microsoft Access, use this LIBNAME statement:
libname myacc odbc required=
"Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb)};
DBQ=c:\sastest\mycars1.accdb";
