SAS Real-Time Decision Manager / SAS® Decision Services enables you to configure the number of connections that it keeps open to the DataFlux Federation Server. You might need to adjust this number in order to get the optimal setting for performance in your environment. The number of connections is controlled by two parameters: MaxActive and MaxIdle. Follow the steps below to tune these settings.

1. Log on to SAS® Management Console as an administrative user.
2. Click the Folders tab.
3. Expand System ► Applications ► SAS Decision Services ► Decision Services 5.5.
4. Select the repository folder for the repository where you want to make the change.
5. Right-click SAS_Activity_Resource from the right-hand pane.
6. Select Edit System Resource....
7. Ensure that MaxActive and MaxIdle are checked. Adjust their values in the Value column. A general rule of thumb is MaxActive=MaxIdle= 2*(# of CPUs on the computer where DataFlux Federation Server is installed). If the amount of time spent doing I/O in your DS2 Activities is large, then you might need to increase this number in order to get optimal performance. If the time spent on computation is large compared to the time spent doing I/O, you might want to decrease this number.

Be sure to apply the hot fix mentioned in SAS Note 49227 in order to avoid contention issues when loading DS2 Activity code on each DataFlux Federation Server connection.
