Usage Note 49148: The passphrase parameter is not supported with passwords that are stored in the SAS proprietary format (SAS002)
When you license and properly install SAS/SECURE software and you configure your SAS® Metadata Server to store passwords in the SAS003 or SAS004 formats, you can supply a passphrase to use as the encryption key rather than using the default fixed key. You can set or change the passphrase using either the METADATA procedure or the the Change PassPhrase utility in the SAS® Deployment Manager.
If you do not have SAS/SECURE software properly installed or licensed or you do not configure your SAS Metadata Server so that it stores passwords in one of the supported formats, then passwords that are stored in metadata are encrypted in the SAS proprietary format (SAS002$1;. However, the passphrase key is not supported with passwords that are stored in the SAS002 format. Therefore, if you attempt to set or change a passphrase when your passwords are stored in this format, you receive the following error:
ERROR: The PassPhrase parameter is not compatible with SAS Proprietary stored passwords.
To prevent the error, either avoid using the passphrase parameter or ensure that your environment is configured so that it uses the SAS003 or SAS004 formats for storing passwords.
