Problem Note 49123: Data integrity problems might occur when SASĀ® sequential access bound libraries reside in disk data sets compressed with SMS tailored compaction
Some users, particularly those using MXG software weekly and monthly build jobs, have reported data integrity problems when using SMS-tailored compression for SAS sequential access bound libraries (tape-format libraries) on disk. SAS recommends that you not use the SMS DATACLAS option COMPACTION=YES for SAS sequential libraries at this time.
You can follow the associated IBM APAR OA41459 for details about a possible fix.
Please be aware that when this problem occurs, neither SAS nor the operating system issues an error message. In one case reported by a customer and reproduced by SAS Institute, a member written to the SAS library was corrupted in such a way that it was effectively missing from the library and did not show up in the list of members produced by PROC CONTENTS.
The symptoms of this problem are unpredictable. To date, the following error has been reported by SAS users:
In a SAS sequential access bound library, a PROC CONTENTS does not show one or more expected members.
