Sample 48682: Add password protection to Excel workbooks that are generated using the ExcelXP tagset

We are frequently asked is if there is a way to add password protection to output that is generated with the ExcelXP tagset. The Microsoft SpreadSheetML specification, which the ExcelXp tagset follows, does not have the ability to add password protection to output in this XML format. However, passwords can be added to files generated with the ExcelXP tagset by using VBScript to save the file in an Excel format that supports password protection, such as .XLSX, and then passing the password via the script.
The sample code on the Full Code tab illustrates how to save the output generated into a native Excel format and also add a password.
