Problem Note 48379: The exception "Unexpected character E (code 69) in prolog" occurs when you deploy a web service on the IBM WebSphere Application Server
When you use the Make Web Services deployment wizard to deploy a SAS® Stored Process as a web service, the following exception might occur:
com.ctc.wstx.exc.WstxUnexpectedCharException: Unexpected character 'E' (code 69) in prolog; expected '<'
at [row,col {unknown-source}]: [1,1]
This exception can occur when WebSphere uses a jaxp.properties file to point to another XML parser. This file is located in the Websphere-home-directory/AppServer/java/jre/lib. directory. To resolve the problem, add the following classes to the jaxp.properties file:
- javax.xml.stream.XMLInputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxInputFactory
- javax.xml.stream.XMLOutputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxOutputFactory
- javax.xml.stream.XMLEventFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxEventFactory
The following snippet is an example of what the file looks like with the additional classes:
#
#javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory=com.ibm.xtq.xslt.jaxp.compiler.TransformerFactoryImpl
javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory=org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl
#javax.xml.xpath.XPathFactory=org.apache.xpath.jaxp.XPathFactoryImpl
#javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory=org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl
#javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory=org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl
#javax.xml.validation.SchemaFactory:http\://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema=org.apache.xerces.jaxp.validation.XMLSchemaFactory
#javax.xml.datatype.DatatypeFactory=org.apache.xerces.jaxp.datatype.DatatypeFactoryImpl
javax.xml.stream.XMLInputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxInputFactory
javax.xml.stream.XMLOutputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxOutputFactory
javax.xml.stream.XMLEventFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxEventFactory
