Usage Note 48257: Unable to connect to a SAS/SHARE® 9.2 server when using the Kerberos security package

If both the client and SAS/SHARE server are running SAS 9.2 TS2M3, and the SAS/SHARE server is started with AUTHENTICATE=REQUIRED, you might see the following error in the client's SAS log:

ERROR: A communication subsystem partner link setup request failure has occurred.
ERROR: TCP link establishment failed.
Or:
ERROR: Attempt to connect to server failed.
ERROR: A communication subsystem partner link setup request failure has occurred.
ERROR: TCP link establishment failed.
ERROR: Error in the LIBNAME statement.
The error occurs when the SAS 9.2 client is trying to use the security package, Kerberos, as the Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) and the SAS/SHARE 9.2 server fails to correctly authenticate the incoming client connections.
Switching the security package from Kerberos to NTLM corrects the problem.
Implement either of the following as a resolution:
- Specify the THREADEDTCP (TTCP) option in your PROC SERVER code that starts the server
- Specify this option in the client's config file:
-SECPACKAGE "NTLM"

The error "A communication subsystem partner link setup request failure has occurred" occurs in the client's SAS log if both the client and SAS/SHARE server are running SAS 9.2 TS2M3, and the SAS/SHARE server is started with AUTHENTICATE=REQUIRED.
