During installation of SAS 9.3, the SAS Framework Data Server 2.2 might show that SAS has been successfully installed when all it has done in actuality is create an install.log in the SAS Framework Data Server directory. It has not completed the installation process.

The SAS^® Deployment Wizard is the common interface used to install and deploy all SAS 9.3 software. It uses Java internally. The SAS Framework Data Server uses a wise.exe installer. So, when the SAS Deployment Wizard performs the installation, the ITdate_time.log file gets a “0” return code from the wise.exe installer. And the SAS Deployment Wizard has no knowledge that installation was not successful. We do not see the failure until the Configuration phase because the files that it needs are not there.

These problems occur if you try to install SAS 9.3 using the wise.exe installer on a Windows platform that has a hard drive that is larger than 1.8TB. The resulting errors are described below.

Errors and Messages

• The default directory of the install.log file is C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFrameworkDataServer\2.2. The file shows a message similar to the following:

    ***  Installation Started date_time***
    Title: SAS Framework Data Server 2.2 Installation
    Source: C:\SASSOF~1\products\DFFEDS~1\DMP22-~1.EXE
    This software requires an additional ###### K bytes free on the C: drive to install.  
    Please remove any unnecessary files and try again.

• If the installation continues to the configuration phase and fails, then the SAS Framework Data Server log (dffedsvrcfg_configure_date_time.log) might contain the following message:

  [exec] The system cannot find the file C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFrameworkDataServer\2.2\bin\tkesrv.exe.
  [exec] Result: 9059
  [propertyfile] Updating property file: C:\SAS\Config\Lev1\Logs\Configure\dffedsvrcfg_config_status.properties

• The ConfigurationErrors.html file (the default directory is C:\SAS\Config\Lev1\Documents) shows the following message:

SAS Framework Data Server failed to deploy successfully

1. The SAS Framework Data Server could not be installed as a service.
   Verify the following:
   ◦exists and is valid
   ◦exists
   ◦is correct
2. No SAS Framework Data Server listener was detected on the specified host (xxxxxxx.xxx.COM) and port (22031).

◦Error log file: C:\SAS\Config\SASHome\Config\Lev1\Logs\Configure\dffedsvrcfg_startServer_2012-10-19-17.18.02.log
◦SAS Framework Data Server logs: C:\SAS\Config\Config\Lev1\FrameworkServer\dffedsvrcfg\Logs



• The Deployment Summary might show the following



• Completed successfully - SAS Framework Data Server (64-bit)
• Completed with errors - SAS Framework Data Server Configuration Error message:
  An error occurred during service installation.
  rc:9059 output: Log file: C:\SAS\Config\Lev1\Logs\Configure\dffedsvrcfg_configure_date_time.log
• The ITdate_time.log file (the default location is C:\Program Files\SASHome\InstallMisc\InstallLogs) might show the following information:

Workarounds

There are three different ways to work around this issue:

• You can install SAS on a drive that is smaller than 1.8 TB or create a smaller partition.
• Or you can install SAS on a different drive. If you choose this option, before installing SAS on a different drive, you first have to remove your existing SAS deployment. To do this, follow the steps in SAS Note 44376: "Removing SAS^® 9.3 in Windows operating environments (for planned installations/deployments only)."
• Or you can stop the configuration and perform these additional steps:
1. Select Start ► Programs ► SAS and select the SAS Deployment Manager. (If you are running Windows 7, be sure you right-click SAS Deployment Manager and select Run as Administrator.)
2. Select the Language (for example: English) and click OK.
3. Under Select SAS Deployment Manager Task:
   1. Select Remove Existing Configuration.
   2. Select Remove user content for SAS Information Delivery Portal.
   3. Click Next.
4. On the Select Product Configurations to Remove screen, click Select All and Next.

IMPORTANT: Unless directed to do so by SAS Technical Support, do not install from an executable other than setup.exe within the SAS Software Depot.
5. Run the installation for the SAS Framework Data Server from the executable in your SAS Software Depot directory.
   For example: SAS Software Depot\products\dffedsas_93115_wx6_xx_sp0_1\dmp22-federation-win64.exe

Performing this step enables you to ignore the prompt that is causing the disk space error:

6. Re-run the installation:
1. Select Install SAS Software.
2. On the Select Deployment Type page, choose Perform a Planned Deployment and check only Configure SAS Software. IMPORTANT: Make sure "Install SAS Software" is deselected.

Conclusion

Because the SAS Deployment Wizard did not catch the failure, the SAS Framework Data Server was successfully added to the deployment registry. Future installations, updates, and hot fixes should all run properly with this workaround.
