Usage Note 47143: The VARINITCHK= option is provided to control the level of error detection for uninitialized variables

DetailsAboutRate It

The VARINITCHK= option is available to control the level of error detection for uninitialized variables. The default behavior for the option is set to the value of NOTE to match the uninitialized variable message produced in all versions prior to SAS 9.4.

The VARINITCHK= option can be set to the following values:

ERROR - The DATA step stops and writes an error message to the SAS log.

WARN - The DATA step executes and writes a warning message to the SAS log.

NOTE - The DATA step executes and writes a note message to the SAS log.
            (This is the default behavior.)

NONOTE - The DATA step executes without writing any messages to the SAS log
            regarding uninitialized variables.
