Problem Note 47872: The error "Expected "'" or '"'" might occur when you register a third-party SAS data set in SAS metadata

SAS data sets that are created by a third-party vendor (for example, Circle Systems Stat/Transfer), are not true SAS data sets that contain all of the required header information.
When you register a third-party data set into SAS metadata, the following error might occur:
ERROR: Expected "'" or '"'
The only workaround is to open the third-party data set in SAS and then save it in SAS. This process corrects the missing header information.
