Installation Note 46867: The SAS® IT Resource Management 3.3 metadata-server configuration is blocked when it is deployed separately from the SAS Application Server
When you perform a new installation of SAS IT Resource Management 3.3 and the metadata server is deployed separately from the SAS Application Server, you cannot select or enter any values in the SAS IT Resource Management Data Tier Dependencies page.
The Data Tier Dependencies page appears as shown below:

When you attempt to continue with the configuration, the following warning message appears:

This problem occurs only when the SAS IT Resource Management 3.3 metadata server configuration is
deployed separately from the SAS Application Server.
To circumvent this problem, follow the steps below. This circumvention requires that you change the prompting level of your configuration during the SAS® Deployment Wizard session for the metadata server.
Note: If you have already encountered this situation, you need to back up to the SAS Deployment Wizard Select Configuration Prompting Level page and begin with Step 2 below.
Deploying the SAS® Metadata Server Separately from the SAS Application Server
- When the deployment wizard presents the list of products to install, proceed with the default selection where all products are selected.
- Change the selection from Typical to Custom
on the Select Configuration Prompting Level page.
- Deselect the SAS IT Resource Management Data Tier item from the list of products to configure.
- Provide the appropriate responses for the remaining SAS Deployment Wizard prompts. Because Custom prompting is in effect, there will be many more prompts, and you can likely accept the default values that are displayed.
- Allow the configuration to run to completion for this metadata-server tier.
- Continue to follow the deployment plan and the SAS Deployment Wizard to install and configure the SAS Application Server, middle tier, and clients.
Note: If the deployment of the metadata server and SAS Application Server are on the same machine, a conflict occurs with the name and port the Operating System Services Scheduling Server. This problem occurs because the SAS Deployment Wizard attempts to configure an Operating System Services Scheduling Server for both the metadata server and the SAS Application Server. To avoid this conflict, follow these steps when you deploy the SAS Application Server.
- When the Select Configuration Prompting Level page is displayed, change the selection from Typical to Custom.
- When the prompt for the Operating System Services Scheduling Server is displayed, add 2 to the name and increment the port value by 1.
For details about metadata-server configuration options by prompt level, see the following sections, respectively, in the SAS® 9.3 Intelligence Platform: Installation and Configuration Guide:
A fix for this issue is planned for a future release of the software.
