Usage Note 46785: "BADBUFRQ(302): Invalid buffer size" errors occur when you use SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Teradata

When using SAS/ACCESS Interface to Teradata, you might receive the following error:
ERROR: Teradata connection: CLI2: BADBUFRQ(302): Invalid buffer size. ERROR: Error in the LIBNAME statement.
The problem occurs when the RESP_BUF_LEN parameter in the Teradata clispb.dat file is set to greater than 65,535 bytes.
In SAS® 9.2, the only circumvention is to lower the RESP_BUF_LEN parameter to 65,535 or less.
In SAS® 9.3 and SAS® 9.4, there is an undocumented LIBNAME option, OVERRIDE_RESP_LEN=, that you can set to YES. This option enables you to increase the RESP_BUF_LEN parameter up to 1,048,418 in the clispb.dat file.
Starting in SAS® 9.4M7 (TS1M7) with Hot Fix J8F003 or J8F004, the error might still occur. For more information, see SAS Note 69350.

When the RESP_BUF_LEN parameter in the Teradata clispb.dat file is set higher than 64k, an Invalid buffer size error occurs. SAS® 9.2 has a limit of 65535. SAS® 9.3 has an undocumented option that enables you to override the 64k limit.
