Usage Note 46541: Pipe communication failures occur when using the EXCELCS, ACCESSCS, or PCFILES engines
When reading and writing data to Excel and Microsoft Access files using the EXCELCS, ACCESSCS, or PCFILES engines, the following errors can occur:
ERROR: A pipe communications routine failed: The pipe has been ended. (109)
ERROR: CLI prepare error: Server communication failure.
ERROR: A pipe communications routine failed: The pipe is being closed. (232)
The problem is intermittent and is more likely to occur on network drives. The problem occurs with older ODBC drivers from Microsoft, which have network connectivity issues. To circumvent the problem, install the latest ODBC drivers from the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable Web page. Download AccessDatabaseEngine.exe.
You do not need Office 2010 on your machine in order to use these ODBC drivers.

Pipe communication failures can occur when using the PC Files Server engines, EXCELCS, ACCESSCS, or PCFILES engines. The problem occurs particularly on network drives. The problem occurs when using older ODBC drivers from Microsoft.
