DYNAMIC_ARRAY, READ_ARRAY and WRITE_ARRAY used in PROC FCMP will work only with numeric arrays. For example, if using a character array with the DYNAMIC_ARRAY inside PROC FCMP, you receive the following ERROR message:

  ERROR: Argument number 1 to the subroutine DYNAMIC_ARRAY must be a numeric array.

A similar message with either READ_ARRAY or WRITE_ARRAY in place of DYNAMIC_ARRAY would be the ERROR message if using a character array with either the READ_ARRAY or WRITE_ARRAY.
