Usage Note 46357: Limited support when specifying DBCS or special character(s) for a SAS data set name using the SAS® 9.3 system option VALIDMEMNAME=EXTEND
When you use the system option VALIDMEMNAME=extend to create a SAS data set name that uses double-byte character set (DBCS) characters or special characters, an error similar to the following occurs when you open the data set:
This table "xxx" either does not exist or cannot be displayed. Would you like to choose a different table to display?
This is the expected behavior for SAS 9.3 software. The windowing environment supports the extended rules in the Editor, Log, and Output windows when VALIDMEMNAME=EXTEND is set. In most SAS windows, these extended rules are not supported. For example, these rules are not supported in SAS Explorer, the VIEWTABLE window, or windows that you open using the Solutions menu.
To prevent this error, do not create a data set name with DBCS or special characters using the VALIDMEMNAME=EXTEND system option.
For more information, review the documentation for VALIDMEMNAME= System Option in the SAS(R) 9.3 System Options: Reference, Second Edition.
