Installation Note 45694: SAS® Enterprise Guide® 5.1 requires that the SAS® 9.3 Workspace Server on a z/OS system have the Work library configured in the UNIX file system
You might see the following error when a SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1 client attempts to establish a connection to a SAS 9.3 Workspace Server on the z/OS platform.
A connection to the server "SASApp" could not be established
If you click
Show Details in the window with this error, the following appears:
[Error] Invalid physical name.
This error occurs when the z/OS SAS Workspace Server’s Work library is configured and allocated as a traditional z/OS data set (a “bound library”).
Workaround
To work around this problem, modify the SAS 9.3 Workspace Server's default Work library configuration on the z/OS system. Define the Work library in UNIX file system space. For example, open the
configuration-directory/Lev1/SASApp/WorkspaceServer/sasv9_usermods.cfg file and add the following:
WORK=/tmp
In this example, all users connecting to the SASApp Workspace server have a Work library in the UNIX file system directory
/tmp.
