When you import Excel or Access files using the EXCELCS or ACCESSCS engines, you might receive the following error:

Error:  Unable to open file filedirectory\filenname.xlsx.  
It does not exist or it is already opened exclusively by another user or you need permission to view its data.  

The message occurs even if you are able to export properly to the same file location. The problem occurs when you are running SAS^® 9.3 (TS1M0) but the PC Files Server is SAS 9.3 (TS1M1) or SAS 9.3 (TS1M2).

To resolve the problem, uninstall the existing PC Files Server and install the PC Files Server that matches your version of SAS^® system.

Checking the Version and Bit Architecture of the PC Files Server

To check the version of the PC Files Server, do the following:

1. Select Start ► Settings ► Control Panel.
2. Click Administrative Tools.
3. Click Services.
4. Locate SAS PC Files Server in the list, right-click it, and choose to stop the service.
5. Minimize the Services window.
6. Select Start ► All Programs ► SAS PC Files Server.

   This invokes the SAS PC Files Server as a task.

7. Select Help ► About.
8. If you have the SAS 9.3 (TS1M0) PC Files Server installed, you see this:
   SAS 9.3 for Windows 32-bit (build 9300.0.19933.43103)

   If you have the SAS 9.3 (TS1M1) SAS PC Files Server installed, you see this:

   SAS 9.3 for Windows 32-bit (build 9301.0.20145.58769)

   If you have the SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) SAS PC Files Server installed, you see this:

   SAS 9.3 for Windows 32-bit (build 9302.0.20514.63724)

Uninstalling the Existing PC Files Server

To uninstall the existing PC Files Server, do the following:

1. Make sure that the PC Files Server is stopped in your services panel. If it is still running, shut it down by clicking Shutdown Server.
2. Make sure that all BI Servers are stopped if you have them running on the same machine.
3. Select Start ► Settings ► Control Panel.
4. In the upper right corner, select either View by: Large icons or View by: Small icons.
5. Double-click Programs and Features.
6. Double-click SAS 9.3 .
7. Select English or another language and click OK.
8. In the Select SAS Products to Uninstall window, click the Clear All button.
9. Make sure that all of the product check boxes are deselected.
10. Select the check box next to the SAS PC Files Server only and click Next.
11. You see the Tooling Initialization Complete panel. The top bar should have 1/1. If it does not finish, contact SAS Technical Support and click Cancel.
12. Then select Next.
13. A stage 1 uninstall button appears.
14. Click Start. The SAS PC Files Server will be uninstalled.
15. Click This Program Uninstalled Correctly.
16. Reboot your machine.
17. After the machine has rebooted, go to the next section of this SAS note.

Installing the matching PC Files Server

1. The SAS 9.3 PC Files Server can be downloaded from the following link: SAS PC Files Server 9.3

Alternatively, navigate to support.sas.com. and then do the following:

1. Click Downloads & Hotfixes on the left.
2. Under the heading Downloads, click SAS software.
3. In the next window, click the link for SAS PC Files Server.
2. If you are running SAS 9.3 (TS1M2), click (Release 9.3 - AUG 2012) , which is the PC Files Server for TS1M2.

   If you are running SAS 9.3 (TS1M1), select SAS PC Files Server (93.140 11w50 - DEC 2011), which is the PC Files Server for TS1M1

   If you are running SAS 9.3 (TS1M0), click SAS PC Files Server (93.130 11w29 - JUL 2011), which is the PC Files Server for TS1M0.

After you select the PC Files Server, you see two different PC Files Servers available. The Microsoft Windows for X64 is for 64-bit Office. Even if you are running an X64 platform such as Windows 7, you should not choose this one if you are running 32-bit Office. If you are running 32-bit Office, choose the Windows instead. The 32-bit version of Office requires the Windows version of the SAS PC Files Server.

There is also a README file that is located with each PC Files Server. This file contains the installation instructions for the PC Files Server. Read the file carefully before proceeding. The installation of the correct PC Files Server should restore the ODBC components.
