Problem Note 45160: The message: NOTE: Invalid argument to function FINANCE at line nnn column x. might occur when using the FINANCE function to calculate the XIRR

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

When computing the internal rate of return for a schedule of cash flows that is not necessarily periodic (XIRR) with the FINANCE function, the message below might be generated.

NOTE: Invalid argument to function FINANCE at line nnn column xx.

The cause of the message might be that the optional third argument to the function, an initial guess, which is close to the anticipated result of XIRR, is ignored. When the initial guess is ignored or not provided, the default initial guess of 0% return is used that might be inappropriate for many sets of data.
