Configuring Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer (IE) must be properly configured to work with the SAS® Drug Development web interface. This involves settings related to Security, Java Runtime Environment, Proxy and Firewall settings, and web page refresh. You can view and change IE settings from the Internet Options window. Select Tools then select Internet Options from the menu bar of IE to display this window.
Java Setting
When the Java Runtime Environment is properly installed on your PC, a setting is added to the Internet Options window. Make sure that Use JRE 1.5.0_X <applet> (requires restart) setting is selected in order to use this plug-in.
Figure 2: below shows the Java setting in the Internet Options window.

Note: If you install the 1.6.0 or higher version, you need to return to Internet Options window and deselect the Use JRE 1.6.0.X for <applet> (requires restart) as shown in Figure 3.

Security Settings
SAS Drug Development uses the HTTPS protocol to access the SAS Drug Development web interface. Two security settings in Internet Explorer must to be set properly in order to view the contents of files stored in SAS Drug Development. Both of these settings are in the Internet Options window. Scroll down to the Security section in the list of settings.
The first security setting determines how Internet Explorer handles documents that are referenced by hyperlinks on a web page. These documents must be downloaded to your local PC before they can be opened. Make sure that the setting Do no save encrypted pages to disk is NOT selected. If it is selected, you cannot view files like MS Word documents that are stored in SAS Drug Development.

The second security setting has to do with accessing a secure site. Appropriate SSL settings must be selected in order to view files stored in SAS Drug Development. Make sure that the Use SSL 3.0 setting is selected.
Figure 5 below shows the Internet Options window with properly configured security settings mentioned above.

Proxy/Firewall Settings
In order to access external Internet sites, most organizations require you to go through a security firewall between your organization's computer systems and the outside world. This typically involves a proxy or configuration script for anti-virus scanning and security. Since SAS Drug Development is a secure, trusted site and it uses encryption to transfer content, a proxy script can be configured to allow SAS Drug Development to bypass the firewall. This improves SDD's performance.
You can check your proxy and configuration settings through the Internet Options window in Internet Explorer. Select the Connections tab from the Internet Options window. From the Connections tab, select the LAN Settings button. This displays the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window.
The Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window contains check boxes for determining how proxy settings are handled. Many organizations use a configuration script file. The name of this file appears in Address field. This file should contain your site's URL to SAS Drug Development so that it can bypass your organization's firewall. Modifications to this file are usually performed by your organization's IT department.
Figure 6 below shows settings in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window when a proxy script file is being used.

You might need to make modifications to proxy server settings if your current configuration uses a proxy server. If the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box is selected in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window, then select the Advanced button. This displays the Proxy Settings window. Add your SAS Drug Development website to the Exceptions field so that the proxy server bypasses any SAS Drug Development web pages.
Figure 7 below is an example of what the Proxy Settings window might look like.
