This sample demonstrates how you can run a SAS program from within JMP to manipulate a JMP data table. This capability benefits JMP users who program in SAS and who might have only remote access to a SAS server.
You need to have the following set up in order for this sample to work:
In a JMP session, select File ► SAS ► New SAS Program. Copy-and-paste the following SAS code into the SAS Program Editor - JMP window:
This SAS program creates a subset of the Big Class JMP table by importing it into a SAS data set via the IMPORT procedure and subsetting the data via a DATA step. The resulting BigClass10 data set is printed to an output window and can be opened in JMP.proc import datafile='<path-to-JMP-sample-data>\Big Class.jmp' out=work.bigclass dbms=jmp replace; run; data work.bigclass10; set work.bigclass; /* create a subset that has the first 10 observations of BIGCLASS */ if _n_ le 10; run; proc print data=work.bigclass10; run;
Before you execute this SAS program, update the path in the DATAFILE= as needed for your installation. To execute the SAS program, right-click inside of the SAS Program Editor - JMP window and select Submit to SAS.
When JMP prompts you with the Connect to SAS Server window, select and enter the SAS server information that is appropriate for your setup:
Click OK. Output like the following should then appear in a SAS Output window:
You can view the SAS log by selecting File ► SAS ► Open SAS Log Window.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The SAS System 15:43 Friday, September 9, 2011 1 Obs name age sex height weight 1 KATIE 12 F 59 95 2 LOUISE 12 F 61 123 3 JANE 12 F 55 74 4 JACLYN 12 F 66 145 5 LILLIE 12 F 52 64 6 TIM 12 M 60 84 7 JAMES 12 M 61 128 8 ROBERT 12 M 51 79 9 BARBARA 13 F 60 112 10 ALICE 13 F 61 107 ====================================================================================================
For more information about executing SAS code from within JMP, see the "Submitting SAS Code" section of Using JMP. For JMP 9.0.2, this documentation begins on page 373 and is located at http://jmp.com/support/downloads/pdf/jmp902/using_jmp.pdf. It is also available within JMP, by selecting Help ► Books ► Using JMP.
