Usage Note 44240: Java exceptions and the message "access is denied" might occur when you attempt to run sas.tools.viewregistry.jar
When you attempt to run sas.tools.viewregistry.jar under Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Server,
you might see an "Access denied" message or a Java exception messages similar to the following:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin>java -jar "c:\Program Files\SAS\deploymntreg\sas.tools.viewregistry.jar"
java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Program Files\SAS\deploymntreg\registry.lck (Access is denied)
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.sas.tools.viewregistry.Report.collectRegistryData(Report.java:98)
at com.sas.tools.viewregistry.Report.main(Report.java:66)

Even though you might be logged in as an Administrator on the machine, the DOS prompt command windows are opened, by default, for a Standard User.
To run the DOS prompt command window as Administrator, do the following:
- Navigate to your Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Server Start globe.
- Select All Programs.
- Select Accessories.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Next, enter the DOS command to run sas.tools.viewregistry.jar in the DOS window that appears.
You can also highlight the DOS prompt command window and press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to run as an Administrator.
