Problem Note 44328: Wu-Meeker critical values might decrease with the sales period
The calculation of critical values in a SASĀ® Warranty Analysis Emerging Issues analysis is based on aspects of the Production Period (Wu-Meeker) model. The Wu-Meeker critical values should always monotonically increase with the sales period. If the underlying ETL data does not change from one run to the next, then monotonicity is guaranteed. The Emerging Issues critical value programs currently recalculate the next critical value independent of the critical values calculated in the prior run. An undetected data error in the ETL process could result in a non-monotonic pattern being locked-in, which might cause issues in subsequent Emerging Issues analysis runs. This problem (non-monotonic pattern) might be observed by viewing the critical values in an Emerging Issues detail chart. The critical value needs to be calculated as the maximum of the currently calculated value and the critical value for the previous in-service period.
There is currently no circumvention for this problem.
