Problem Note 43184: The subtotal tables on SASĀ® Warranty Analysis summary tables do not match the values for trend-by-exposure analyses for some reporting variables
The sample size values on the summary tables might not match the corresponding values from exposure and trend-by-exposure analyses. The problem occurs because the code for the summary tables incorrectly uses distinct values when it should use every value.
The sum of the sample sizes for the reporting variables in a summary table is not correct. It is less than the correct total. The resulting claim rate for summary tables is based on this incorrect total and might therefore be higher than the correct claim rate.
In this example, the sample sizes are reported by exposure and trend-by-exposure analyses.
Analysis Type |
Sample Size |
Exposure (no group) |
37,331 |
Exposure (Model) |
31,794 + 5,537 = 37,331 |
Exposure (Plant) |
12,438 + 12,478 + 12,415 = 37,331 |
Trend by Exposure |
640 + 716 + 707 + 71 + ... = 37,331 |
Notice that the total here is correct: 37,331
In this example, Summary Tables (Model, Plant, TIS [Time in Service]) is correct.
Summary Tables (Model, Plant, TIS) |
Sample Size |
TIS only | Sample size = 37,331 |
Model and TIS |
31,794 + 5,537 = 37,331 |
Plant and TIS |
12,438 + 12,478 + 12,415 = 37,331 |
However, in this example, Summary Tables (Model, Plant, Assembly Month, TIS) is incorrect. The sample sizes do not add up to 37,331.
Summary Tables (Model, Plant, Assembly Month, TIS) |
Sample Size |
TIS only |
37,331 |
Model and TIS |
27,054 + 4,328 = 31,382 |
Plant and TIS |
12,045 + 11,464 + 12,182 = 35,691 |
Assembly Month and TIS |
603 + 716 + 707 + 47 ... = 34,253 |
If the total for your summary tables is incorrect, work around the problem by using a sample size and claim rate from a similar exposure or trend-by-exposure analysis.
