Usage Note 43528: ThinkVantage Technologies Password Manager can cause the SASĀ® System to stop processing
SAS might stop processing when you start a SAS/CONNECT® session from a SAS session that runs in the Windows 7 operating environment. This problem occurs when you are using a Lenovo ThinkPad with the ThinkVantage Technologies Password Manager. When SAS stops processing, a dialog box appears with the following messages:
sas.exe has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...
Other messages, such as the following, might also appear:
[a] problem has caused the program to stop working properly. Windows will close the program.
The problem might be caused by the password manager's involvement in helping the sign-on process via SAS/CONNECT software's password prompts. The ThinkVantage Password Manager can save passwords for you automatically. When the password manager tries to intervene (possibly prompting whether you want it to remember a password) while you are running SAS/CONNECT software with its password prompt, it can cause the SAS® System to crash.
To prevent the problem, follow these steps:
- Invoke the ThinkVantage Password Manager.
- Select Set Preferences from the menus, and click the Restricted tab.
- In the Applications pane at the bottom of the window, add sas.exe to the Restricted Applications list.
