When SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office is installed and the Team Explorer add-in is also installed, both the SAS menu and the Team Explorer menu show in Microsoft Office 2003 applications, such as Excel and Word. (Note: Team Explorer is part of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System.) However, whereas small SAS data sets are displayed without error, displaying larger SAS data sets might produce one of the following errors:

  Unable to render the data view. Reason: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

  Unable to render the data view. Reason: A list cannot overlap another list.

  This may be due to another Excel table partially overlapping the same horizontal or 
  vertical plane as the data view whose size is changing. If so, you can avoid this error 
  by rearranging your Excel tables or changing the growth behavior of the data view on the 
  Advanced tab of its Properties dialog.

These errors occur because of a conflict with SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office and the Team Explorer add-in in Microsoft Office 2003 applications. This problem does not occur with SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office and Team Explorer from recent versions of Microsoft Visual Studio, such as Microsoft Visual Studio TEAM Explorer 2010, used in conjunction with more recent versions of Microsoft Office, such as Microsoft Office 2010.

There are three possible workarounds for this issue:

Option 1

Uninstall Team Explorer by using Add/Remove programs.

Option 2

Do not uninstall Team Explorer, but change the load behavior in the Windows registry. With this method, the Team Explorer is still installed, but it does not load in Excel. You can turn the load behavior back on when you need the TEAM menu item again.

1. Click START ► Run.
   Or, in Microsoft Windows 7, click START and type REGEDIT in the search box.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins.
3. Select the Team Explorer add-in and, in the pane on the right, right-click LoadBehavior and select Modify.
4. Change the number from 3 to 2 and click OK.
5. Select File ► Exit.

OPTION 3

This method requires testing to determine the optimal number records to view on your machine. With Team Explorer installed and loaded, begin to replicate the problem again with SAS data sets, such as sashelp.cars, but before you click the OK button in the View SAS Data window, select Number of records to view and reduce this number. In one case, the error did not occur with 25 records. So the number was increased to 50 records but still no error occurred. The optimal number might be different for each data set.
